Warsak Power Station consultancy contract awarded to Dolsar

Contract of consultancy services worth Rs 868m was awarded on Tuesday by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to  a joint venture comprising of four firms led by Dolsar from Turkey. The contract was awarded  through an international competitive bidding process for a second Rehabilitation of Warsak Hydroelectric Power Station.

The Rehabilitation Project aims to tackle problems aggravated by ageing equipment and to rehabilitate the power plan for the 57 year old Power Station, located on river Kabul about 30 km northwest of Peshawar. Not only will it help in increasing its service life but will also prolong its ability to provide much needed power to the National Grid.

WAPDA is going to execute this power project to regain its generation capacity, which has dropped to 193MW from 243MW due to worn-out electro-mechanical equipment.

The repairs and rehabilitation is expected to be carried out at a stated PC-I cost of           Rs 22.25b with the objective to fix deteriorating problems, recoup the capacity loss of 50MW with reliable annual energy generation of 1.14b units, upgrade and modernize the old system and achieve another life cycle of 30 to 40 years.
