Power generation reaches record high of 17,720MW: Khawaja Asif

On Wednesday Minister of Water and Power, Khawaja Asif tweeted that a new record for power generation had been set which was recorded at 17,720 megawatts at 3 pm in the afternoon. This broke the earlier record set in June last year during Ramazan when it had touched 17,430 MW. The demand was still recorded at over 21,000 megawatts translating into an average power deficit of around 3,000MW. Current generation from Hydel stood at 5,240MW, GENCO 2,901MW and IPP’s 9579MW. This increase in generation would be a welcome change as it would enable to reduce the hours of power outages and provide relief to the masses.

As per a ministry spokesman who said, “Not a single megawatt of forced load-shedding was conducted in the entire country despite a steep rise in demand.” Normally power shortfall in peak summer season tends to hover around 6,000MW, translating into 8 hours of load-shedding or more on a daily basis, with rural areas hit with even more in this regard. And as per another official, there were zero power outages in areas with high recoveries and low transmission and distribution losses.
