Weekly inflation goes up by 1.71pc

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation for the week ended on June 13, for the combined income group witnessed an increase of 1.71 per cent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 227.74 points against 223.91 points registered in the previous week, according to data provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 3.59 per cent.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-08, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs8,000 was also increased by 2.15 per cent as it went up from 208.68 points in the previous week to 213.16 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs8,001-12,000, Rs12,001-18,000, Rs18,001-35,000 and above Rs35,000 also increased by 1.95 per cent, 1.85 per cent, 1.70 per cent and 1.52 per cent respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of 2 items registered decrease, while that of 19 items increased with the remaining 32 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered a decrease in their prices during the week under review included bananas and mash pulse.

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, chicken, wheat flour, red chilly (powder), onions, diesel, potatoes, petrol, kerosene oil, milk (fresh), sugar, LPG Cylinder, Mustard oil, garlic, wheat, vegetable ghee, beef, eggs and gur.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice (basmati), rice (irri-6), bread (plain), mutton, curd, milk (powdered), cooking oil, vegetable ghee (tin), masoor pulse, moong pulse, gram pulse, salt, tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked daal, tea (prepared), cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn, georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, fire wood, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, telephone local call and bath soap.
