ET&NC decides to crackdown on token tax defaulters

LAHORE: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Department has decided to crackdown against the defaulters of vehicle token taxes, warning of a widescale operation if token tax is not submitted by October 1, Profit learnt on Tuesday.

ET&NC sources informed this scribe that even before the lockdown, a campaign was launched for the submission of token taxes on vehicles with the aim of enabling citizens to pay token taxes on time.

However, the taxes have not been paid by many government and private vehicles, therefore, the department’s motor vehicle branch has compiled lists of all defaulters.

“There are thousands of vehicles on the roads whose token taxes have not been paid for many years,” sources said, adding that awareness notices are also being put up in parking lots of markets and plazas across the city whereas the public is also being informed of action against them if they fail to pay the token tax.

It may be mentioned here that the department would form teams which would set up check posts at various points in the city and the vehicles of the defaulters would be seized and fined after the deadline.

ET&NC Director Region C Qamar Hassan Sajjad said that the owners of 900,000 vehicles have not paid token taxes so far and they will be dealt with according to the law.
