Pakistan Railways announces fare hike for passenger and freight trains

Passenger train fares to rise by 3%, freight charges up by 4%, with new rates effective from June 20 and June 23, respectively, due to rising operational costs.

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in fares for both passenger and freight trains following a rise in petroleum product prices.

According to an official notification, passenger train fares will increase by 3%, while the charges for freight wagons will rise by 4%. The new passenger fares will be effective from June 20, while the updated freight rates will take effect from June 23.

This fare hike is a response to rising operational costs and is part of Pakistan Railways’ strategy to manage expenditures amid escalating fuel prices.
