The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) grid system operations are likely to be handed over to the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), reported a national daily.
The NTDC will run 132 KV grid stations along with transmission system while the LESCO will be confined to the distribution and billing operations.
Sources have revealed that the decision has been taken to upgrade transmission system after the government’s plans to end load shedding by 2018 were made public.
The step is likely to relieve LESCO of the burdening task of transmission. Â An up gradation of the existing transmission system is a dire need to strengthen the existing system once the transmission lines are overburdened with full load. The NTDC is already operating the 500 KV and 220 KV systems.
