Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has stated on Wednesday that the 969-megawatt Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectric Project is likely to commence production by January 2018. More than 90pc work of the work on the project has been completed and the project is likely to be commissioned by early next year, he informed. He added that the project will be a major contributor to relieve the energy crisis prevalent in the country.
However, Sher Ali stressed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should conduct an investigation regarding delay in the completion of the project in addition to why the costs had gone up beyond the initial sanctioned amount in PC-1. He added that there had been a deliberate delay in the implementation of the project and corruption of billions of rupees which need to be probed into.
He appreciated the current government’s efforts in dealing with energy crisis saying that the government is determined to bring the country out of darkness in accordance with the vision of the PM.
Sher Ali vowed to continue work for the development and prosperity of the country.
