Growers advised ensuring cotton cultivation from July to October

SARGODHA: Cotton growers have been advised to complete cotton cultivation from July to October and irrigate the fields according to weather conditions.

Agriculture (PLANT and Protection) assistant director said that the months of July, August, September and October were best for cotton cultivation and all arrangements for easy flow of access to water in the fields should be ensured to avoid standing rain water.

He also advised farmers to ensure pests scouting twice in cotton fields daily and spray their crop after consultation with agriculture experts.

He said that farmers should avoid overuse of urea fertiliser for cotton plants as chances of pest attack increase after excessive usage.

He further said that usage of zinc, boron and urea spray was needed in case of fruit dropping; a mixture of 2-litre potassium nitrate in 100-litre water can improve the health of plants, otherwise a mixture of 10 kilogramme potassium nitrate can also be used.
