President says reforms underway to ensure ease of doing business

–Dr Alvi stresses the need for branding of Pakistani products 

–Razak Dawood assures businessmen of further reduction in duties and tariffs

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has said that the incumbent government is taking adequate measures to ensure ease of doing business in the country.

Addressing a ceremony during the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Achievement Awards, the president said that despite the coronavirus pandemic and heavy odds, the government is striving to stabilise national institutions.

He said the development of institutions leads to an improved economic situation of the country, adding that due to lucrative packages offered by the government, the country’s stock exchange has been declared as stable and people of the world are recognizing it.

He said with the right policies of the government, Pakistan’s economy is now heading towards a ‘take off’, urging the business community to have confidence in the future of Pakistan.

He stressed that the business community should focus on the branding of products to promote exports.

Congratulating the award winners, Dr Alvi appreciated the ICCI for organizing the awards to recognize the contribution of outstanding businesses.

Speaking on the occasion, Adviser to PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood said the government has taken several steps to ensure ease of doing business in the country, which would lead to an increase in exports. He said the government is also focusing on ‘Look Africa Policy’ to enhance the volume of Pakistan’s exports to this larger market.

“The PM has given a vision for the economy… let us work hard to make Pakistan a strong economy.”

Dawood urged the exporters to widen the range of products, as the government is focusing on export-led growth of the economy. He assured that the government would further reduce duties and tariffs, besides removing hurdles to make businesses more competitive.

He said that the economy has been put in the right direction and more steps would be taken for ease of doing business, adding that the business community should promote ‘Made in Pakistan’ and lauded the initiative of ICCI for organizing the Awards 2020.

In his welcome address, ICCI President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed said that the main purpose of organizing 3rd ICCI Achievement Awards was to acknowledge the role of top performing businesses in the economic development. He said that the business community has always contributed to steer the economy out of challenges and the government should create a more conducive environment for businesses to flourish.

Information & Broadcasting Minister Shibli Faraz, S&T Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Adviser to PM on Institutional Reforms Dr Ishrat Hussain, MNA Sajida Zulfiqar, high government officials and diplomats were also present on the occasion.
