LAHORE (Monitoring Desk):Bangladesh’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said it wants to strengthen economic and constructive ties with Pakistan and expand bilateral cooperation following its election victory, according to a statement posted on the party’s official X account.
The BNP said Bangladesh acknowledged recent positive momentum in bilateral engagements and remained open to a forward-looking relationship with Pakistan based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, and constructive dialogue. It said the two sides should explore practical avenues of cooperation to promote regional peace, stability, and shared progress in South Asia.
The party said Bangladesh and Pakistan share a history marked by both challenges and cooperation, adding that dialogue, respect, and regional engagement should underpin future relations. It expressed hope that economic links and people-to-people contacts would expand in the coming years.
The BNP also thanked President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their congratulatory messages after the party’s landslide election victory. President Zardari congratulated BNP leader Tarique Rahman and praised the people of Bangladesh for holding peaceful elections.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the polls and said he looked forward to working with the new leadership to strengthen bilateral ties and advance shared goals of peace, stability, and development in South Asia and beyond.
