Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made a significant oil and gas discovery at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well, located in the Lumshiwal formation of the Nashpa Block in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a filing at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday, the discovery was confirmed after conducting a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04), which revealed oil production at a rate of 225 barrels per day (BOPD) and gas at 1.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
“We are pleased to inform that Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), operator of the Nashpa Exploration License (65% Working Interest), together with its joint venture partners — Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) (5% carried interest) — has made an oil and gas discovery over Lumshiwal formation at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant), located in district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan,” read the OGDCL’s notice sent to the PSX.

The well was spud-in on December 30, 2024, and drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters, targeting multiple formations including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali. The test results showed positive outcomes, with oil and gas finds in the Kingriali, Datta, and Samana Suk + Shinawari formations.
The Baragzai X-01 discovery is expected to help reduce the energy supply-demand gap by utilizing indigenous resources. OGDCL and its joint venture partners, including Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), are optimistic that the discovery will add to the company’s hydrocarbon reserves base and contribute to Pakistan’s energy sector.
This discovery further underscores the ongoing potential of Pakistan’s domestic oil and gas resources, which continue to play a critical role in meeting the country's growing energy demands.
On Thursday, OGDCL announced a gas and condensate discovery at its Dars West-3 well in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh, producing 9.70 MMSCFD of gas along with 580 barrels per day of condensate.
According to the company, the well was drilled to a total depth of 2,100 metres and tested using OGDCL’s in-house technical expertise. During the test, Dars West-3 produced 9.70 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas along with 580 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate at a choke size of 36/64 inches.
OGDCL further stated that the wellhead flowing pressure was recorded at 1,725 psi from the Lower Goru C-Sand reservoir, reflecting strong reservoir performance and supporting the commercial viability of the discovery.
The company termed the results “encouraging,” noting that the discovery reinforces the hydrocarbon prospectivity of the Lower Goru Formation and further strengthens OGDCL’s portfolio of domestic oil and gas resources.
OGDCL said pipeline laying work is already underway to connect the Dars West-3 well with the KPD-TAY processing plant. Once completed, the produced gas will be processed and injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network, which is expected to contribute additional volumes to the national gas supply system.
