FBR’s Lifestyle Cell initiates action against 38 YouTubers, TikTokers over Rs15 billion concealed income

The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Lifestyle Monitoring Cell, operating under the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation–Inland Revenue, has begun recovery proceedings against 38 prominent YouTubers, TikTok creators and social media influencers over alleged concealment of income amounting to Rs15 billion, Business Recorder reported, citing tax officials.

According to officials, the action follows findings by the FBR’s Lifestyle Cell, which identified discrepancies between declared income and observed expenditure patterns. Intelligence advisories have been issued to field formations to initiate detailed income tax audits. Notices for concealment of income are being prepared, and fresh assessments will be carried out to determine unpaid taxes and applicable penalties.

In several cases, audit proceedings have already commenced. The authorities are examining past tax years to assess the extent of undeclared earnings and unexplained assets.

The monitoring cell reported that the declared income of the individuals did not align with their displayed lifestyle and spending. Investigators concluded that significant expenditures appeared to have been financed through income not disclosed to tax authorities.

The FBR said it would pursue recovery of outstanding tax liabilities in accordance with the law.
