LPG cylinder price jumps Rs923 from April 1, raising household energy costs

ISLAMABAD: LPG prices have surged sharply for consumers, with the price of a domestic cylinder increasing by Rs923 from April 1, 2026, adding significant pressure on household energy expenses amid already high inflation.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has notified a massive increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices for April 2026, raising concerns over affordability for millions of consumers relying on LPG for cooking and heating.

According to the notification, the LPG consumer price has been increased by Rs923.71 per 11.8 kg cylinder, taking it from Rs2,664.88 in March to Rs3,588.59 in April 2026. This reflects a sharp rise of 34.66 percent on a month-on-month basis.

On a per kilogram basis, LPG prices have gone up by Rs78.28, further intensifying the financial burden on households, particularly in areas where LPG is the primary fuel.

Similarly, OGRA increased the LPG producer price by Rs78,280.54 per ton, from Rs184,536.99 in March to Rs262,817.53 in April. In terms of cylinder price, the producer rate has climbed by Rs923.71 to Rs3,101.25.

The regulator said that LPG producer prices are linked with the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) and the US dollar exchange rate. During the current month, the Saudi Aramco-CP witnessed a significant increase of 44 percent compared to March, which remained the primary driver behind the surge in local prices.

Although the average dollar exchange rate slightly decreased by 0.11 percent, its marginal impact could not offset the steep rise in international LPG benchmarks.

The latest hike is expected to have a widespread impact, especially on low- and middle-income households, as LPG is widely used in rural and off-grid areas where natural gas supply is unavailable.

The official notification is available on OGRA’s website.
