PIA to add 6 aircrafts on dry lease to its fleet

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is likely to include six aircraft on dry lease for a duration of 6 to 12 years to carry out routine operations of international and domestic flights.

The induction of the aircraft is primarily focused on meeting customer demand at a time when its existing fleet is facing inspection and maintenance.

The airline management wanted to add 4 “Narrow Body Aircraft” to its fleet by the first quarter of 2018 with the requirements that the aircraft need not be older than 2012 although older models could be considered as per National Aviation Policy 2015.Moreover, the seating capacity of the aircraft should exceed 150 in Business and Economy classes.

It also planned to induct to two “Wide Body Aircraft” by end of 2017 with the specification that the aircraft need not be older than 2012 though older models could be considered as per National Aviation Policy 2015. In addition, the seating capacity of the aircraft should be exceeding 250 in Business and Economy classes with the availability of full flat‐bed seats and provision of the in‐flight entertainment system and in‐seat monitors with AVOD.

The formal Lease Agreement between PIA and the successful bidding company/ airline shall be executed within thirty (30) days of the receipt of duly completed Form of Contract Agreement /inspection of aircraft by PIA, which implies that the aircraft are expected to be a part of the fleet in May or June 2017.

Additionally, PIA is in the process of acquiring 8 fuel efficient 787 dream liners by the middle of the current year. The acquisitions are likely to improve the operational efficiency of the national carrier.
