Campaign to re-introduce domestic products globally soon to be launched

Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan stated on Wednesday that the ministry may introduce legislation to facilitate businesses.

Addressing an event organised by the All Pakistan Business Forum on the ease of doing business, the minister sought stakeholders’ suggestions for creating a conducive business environment. He further added that it is the joint responsibility of the federal and the provincial governments to provide a suitable environment to ensure smooth functioning of the businesses.

Khan added that legislation governing e-commerce is in progress, stating further that the government plans to reintroduce Pakistani brands internationally by the end of the year.

Khan opined that although Pakistan is heading in the right direction but its progress needs to be faster. He urged the private sector to collaborate with the government in this regard.

He further informed the media that the first payment of the textile package will be given in the next few days as per the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) issued circular.

Khan told that Pakistan is ranked among top 10 countries that have introduced business reforms. He appreciated government’s efforts to boost economic activities and said that Pakistan is attracting a lot of foreign investment under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

On the other hand, Khan highlighted the energy crisis issue terming it as the biggest challenge facing the country after terrorism. He assured that the government is handling the impending problems in a befitting manner. He further said that the government is trying to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the local industry.
