Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif inspected the 1,230-megawatt gas power plant in Haveli Bahadur Shah, Jhang during a visit on Monday.
He visited different areas of the plant including the control room and expressed satisfaction over the pace of work. The chief minister also held meetings with different engineers and workers, according to a statement.
Talking to the workers, Sharif said they were working on a project of national importance and Rs90 billion would be spent on the project.
He said the project would prove to be a milestone in overcoming load-shedding and it would start producing 750 megawatts of electricity within a week.
Electricity generation had to start from Monday night at the plant on a trial basis.
Praising the government, Sharif said its efforts aimed at overcoming load-shedding had started bearing fruit.
Speaking to media persons, he said, “we had to fight both darkness as well as its supporters” and vowed that they would succeed on both fronts.
He said the developments made in energy production over the past four years had no example in the 70-year history of Pakistan. He vowed that domestic as well as industrial consumers would be provided required electricity.
The minister appreciated the work of international experts and local workers.
