17th ITCN Asia conference held in Karachi

Karachi: The 17th ITCN Asia 2017 –Pakistan’s largest telecom and information technology conference – organized in Expo Center, Karachi, attracted more than 65,000 visits during its three-day span from September 19 to September 21, 2017.

Technology enterprises participating in the event took the forum as an opportunity to sign agreements (MOUs) worth more than $100 million which will enable them to find solutions for social and business development in the sector.

The 17th ITCN Asia was organized over a large 150,000 sq. feet area in the Expo center and more than 600 international and domestic brands with their 150+ participants attended the event. The purpose of the event was to create opportunities for business-to-business alliances and allowing the 50+ participating startups to find mutual capacity building strengths with similar ventures.

Addressing the event on its inaugural day, the Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ismail Shah said, “The internet promises easier access to modern education across our vast rural communities, while revolutionizing global businesses and social-connectivity. The youth must make positive use of this technology to ensure faster national progress.”

Shah also appreciated the ITCN Asia series of events in his address and said, “[The event] provides a collaborative environment to find better solutions and facilitate public/private partnerships.”

Besides Shah, various dignitaries such as H. E. John Warner (acting US Consul General in Karachi), Dr. Atta ur Rehman (former Minister of IT), Dr. Sikander Ali Shoro (Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh for IT) and the CPLC Chief Mohammad Zubair Habib attended the three-day conference.

Another highlight of the event were the two conferences on “Challenges of Digital Security for Media” and “Role of ICT in Higher Education Institutions” organized on the second day of the 17th ITCN Asia 2017 by the ‘Knowledge Partner’ of the event Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi.

Umair Nizam, the Project Director of ITCN Asia, said, “We are delighted to see the overwhelming response from the IT and Telecom industries. It reflects the resounding success of this annual mega-event that promises great enrichment to technology-based industries.”

Nizam further added that nearly 70 percent of the exhibitors have already confirmed their participation in the next year’s event due to the ‘tremendous mileage’ gained from this event.
