NICVD’s organises 1st certification ceremony of Intervention Cardiology Fellowship Programme

KARACHI: National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) organised its first certification ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Programme on January 30, 2018, in Karachi.

A total of 13 fellows were awarded certificates for successfully completing post-fellowship training in the sub-speciality of interventional cardiology. Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani was the honourable Chief Guest of the ceremony.

In his welcome address, NICVD Executive Director Professor Nadeem Qamar said that it is great pride and honour for NICVD to conduct its first certification ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Programme. This programme focuses on producing skilled doctors, equipped with the highest standards of leadership and management skills as well as ethical practices so that they are able to function as competent and compassionate specialists.

Professor Nadeem Qamar said that”NICVD is one of the leading centres for post-graduate training in adult cardiology, pediatric cardiology, anesthesiology, and cardiac surgery and post-fellowship training in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and cardio-thoracic anesthesiology. We also offer post-graduate diploma in cardiology. It is a matter of great pride that 44 fellows cleared FCPS and 43 trainees cleared diploma in Cardiology during 2015-2017.”

He also added that for over half a century, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases has tirelessly endeavoured to excel in cardiovascular patient-care, training and research. “With more than 300 highly qualified surgeons, doctors and trainees, we have provided superior services to our patients requiring emergency care, admission and consultation.”

NICVD is committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in medical education and clinical research for the benefit of humanity. He thanked Sindh Government for their endless support and further appreciated the efforts of NICVD team for their endless endeavours.

At this occasion, Professor Syed Nadeem Hassan Rizvi said that NICVD has introduced innovative teaching methods keeping in view, the modern global trends to ensure that its students and faculty are fully equipped to face the challenges of a rapidly developing world.

Congratulating the fellows and their parents, Honorable Chief Guest, Agha Siraj Khan Durrani said that it is a matter of pride and honour for NICVD to conduct its first ceremony of interventional cardiology. I acknowledge the positive impact of systems and processes of NICVD’s postgraduates programme in the areas of healthcare and education not only in Sindh Province but also all over Pakistan, he said.

He added that NICVD is taking important initiatives in order to keep up with these advancements by upgrading curricula, enhancing skills, improving teaching practices, fostering research and setting high standards in line with the international benchmarks.

The ceremony was attended by more than 500 health and non-clinical professionals from different institutions.
