NA committee on commerce and textile recommends PSDP proposals

ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile recommended Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) proposals of Ministry of Commerce and Textile amounting to Rs25,626.577 million for the financial year 2018-19 in its meeting held here on Friday under the chairmanship of Member National Assembly (MNA) Siraj Muhammad Khan.

The committee was separately apprised about the proposed PSDP of Commerce and Textile Divisions. The Commerce Division additional secretary informed that the division had proposed allocation of PSDP fund amounting to Rs8,550 million for the financial year 2018-19 for seven projects relating to establishment of new Expo-Centres at Islamabad, Quetta and Faisalabad, expansion and remodeling of Expo-Centre at Karachi, provision of hostel and transport facility to students at Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design Lahore, and an ongoing project relating to Expo-Centre at Peshawar.

Later the Textile Division secretary apprised the committee about the proposed PSDP allocation for the division’s project.

He informed that Rs11,012.372 million had been proposed for five new projects whereas Rs6,064.205 had been proposed for seven projects which were being resubmitted for approval by the Planning and Development Division.

Apprising the committee about the new projects, the secretary said that those projects related to the establishment of National Textile University (NTU) campus at Quetta, Garment City Project at Karachi, construction of a new library at NTU’s Faisalabad campus and implementation of a system for standardisation of high-quality cotton.

The committee after thorough discussion recommended the entire proposed PSDP of the ministry for inclusion in the budget for next financial year and expressed satisfaction on the progress and implementation of the committee’s recommendations by the concerned divisions.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Commerce and Textile Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, MNAs Asad-ur-Rehman, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Tahira Aurangzeb, Zeb Jaffar, Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharral, Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Mussarat Ahmad Zeb, Sajida Begum, Dr Fouzia Hameed, Sanjay Perwani, commerce secretaries and senior officers of the concerned departments.
