Pakistan has 7.835mn tonnes of wheat in storage

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan currently has 7.835 million tons wheat in storage and for the next year, the rate for the purchase of wheat has been fixed at Rs1300 per 40kg.

According to given statistics, an estimated 4.531 million tons of wheat was in surplus last year, and in the year 2017, 4.970 million tons wheat had been in stock. It stated that 7.5 million wheat had been purchased at Rs224.860 billion despite a surplus of wheat in the Punjab province.

However, the target of wheat purchase was fixed to 4.5 million tons but the government purchased only 3.949 million tons. The current stock of wheat is at 4.752 million tonnes.

In Sindh, 0.361 million tons of wheat was present as surplus, and the target of purchasing wheat was fixed at 1.20 million tonnes but the province purchased 1.399 million tons.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 0.123 million tonnes of wheat was present in surplus, and the purchasing target was fixed at 0.35 but the province purchased 0.265 million tonnes. The total shortage of wheat existed to 0.004 million tonnes.

In Balochistan, 0.001 million tonnes of wheat was present in surplus, as the purchasing target was set 0/10 million tonnes, and the current stock of wheat was limited to 0.123 million tonnes. Moreover, in the last year, 4.50million tonnes of wheat had been purchased in Punjab at Rs130.360 billion. However, currently, PESCO has a storage of 1.654 million tonnes of wheat as it had purchased a total 0.90 million tonnes of wheat, paying Rs37.500 billion.
