LAHORE: TCL Electronics Pakistan, the Chinese company is set to widen its presence in Pakistan’s electronics and mobile phone market, as high-end tech products are gaining traction, said company executives.
In an interview to Express Tribune, TCL Pakistan General Manager Sunny Yang stated the perception of Pakistani consumers were rising and were more aware of global brands and technology, which converted into more demand for high-end products.
The company, which is a subsidiary of TCL Corporation China is worried regarding the low purchasing power of Pakistani consumers, however, it still considers the country as a strategic market having a population over 200 million.
Ms Yang said the trend would assist in launching white goods and mobile phones in the country.
She talked about the major shift the market has made towards bigger sized panels and 4k televisions over the past few years.
She added this trend was very positive for TCL since it already had a significant presence in the market as one of the leading players in the smart and 4k segment in Pakistan.
Ms Yang recalled that it took China two years to shift from traditional to smart tv’s and Pakistan was also making the switch, which would contribute to higher demand for TV sets in the future.
She highlighted TCL Pakistan’s main offering was televisions, but other products would be introduced soon.
The company has sold LED televisions in Pakistan under a partnership with Nobel brand from 2006-2013 and under the TCL brand since 2013 by making 100 percent investments in Nobel.
Currently, TCL Pakistan holds 10 percent of market share in Pakistan. A recent survey conducted by TCL Pakistan in conjunction with GFK revealed Pakistan’s yearly demand for TV sets was 1.2 million, of which 18 percent constitutes of traditional and old tv sets.
