Three-day int’l carpet exhibition from 17th

LAHORE: A three-day international carpet exhibition is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, October 17, to give impetus to Pakistan’s carpet industry and earn a large chunk of foreign exchange.

The international participants in the exhibition are expected to start arriving Pakistan from today (Monday), said office-bearers of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA). They said that Trade and Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Director General Mian Riaz Ahmed would formally inaugurate the exhibition.

Chairing a meeting of the association to review arrangements for the exhibition, PCMEA Senior Vice Chairman Ejazur Rehman said that approximately 70 stalls would be established by the Pakistani Carpet Association at the exhibition, while a large number of Pakistani people would also participate in the exhibition along with the international participants.

PCMEA group leader Abdul Latif Malik, Carpet Institute Chairman Saeed Khan, and TDAP Coordinator Riaz Ahmed also attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the business people from America, Britain, Germany and Australia would participate in the exhibition. Ejaz said as many as 150 foreign buyers have confirmed their participation in the international carpet exhibition so far, adding that a three-member committee had also been constituted to maintain liaison with international participants after the exhibition in order to gain the desired results.

The Carpet Association SVC said the exports of carpet from Pakistan were likely to exceed $500 million mark if it was provided further support of the commerce and industry ministries.
