‘Govt striving hard to promote e-commerce, IT exports’

ISLAMABAD: Information Technology and Telecommunications Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said on Tuesday that the government was striving hard to increase the benefits of broadband and promote e-commerce and IT exports.

Talking to Facebook Public Policy Vice President Simon Milner, he said digitalisation of Pakistan and development of human resources were among the top priorities of the government.

The minister welcomed Milner and discussed matters related to IT and social media. Siddiqui apprised him about the steps being taken by his ministry with regard to the utilisation of technology for socioeconomic development.

Milner lauded the steps taken in the field of IT and briefed the minister that Facebook was working on a programme to train women in rural areas of Sindh, adding that the programme would sensitize them on the use of internet (Facebook) to market their products online.

Khalid Maqbool appreciated Facebook and said access to technology for the women of rural areas was very important in today’s world.
