Chinese delegation visits BOI, discusses progress on Rashakai SEZ

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of China Road and Bridge Cooperation (CRBC), led by Director Shi Xiaobo, visited Board of Investment (BOI) to discuss the timelines in making the Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) operational.

The meeting was chaired by BOI Chairman Haroon Sharif and attended by the BOI secretary, executive director general and other team members.

During the meeting, the BOI chairman explained that the Rashakai SEZ has a strategic significance as it is closer to Afghanistan and Central Asian countries. He added that BOI is strengthening its capacity by having specific desks and teams to deal with investors from different countries, as well as by working on important assignments, including SEZs.

An incentive package for the Rashakai SEZ was also discussed during the meeting. The BOI chairman emphasized the need to have regular monthly meetings so as to fast track the progress on Rashakhai SEZ.

Discussing the importance of Rashakai SEZ, the CRBC director termed the economic zone a role model project for other planned SEZs. He said that the establishment of Rashakai economic zone would result in industrial development, which would subsequently create employment opportunities and generate economic activity. He said combined efforts of all stakeholders would be crucial for the success of the project.
