Karachi still waiting for its share of development funds

The mega city’s projects of road infrastructure, mass-transit, water and sewerage haven’t received any funds from the federal government in the first two months of the new fiscal year.

Government figures show that Rs 2 billion has been set aside for the current year Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for Greenline Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). In addition, Rs893 million has been allocated for construction of Fly-over at Sakhi Hassan, Five Star, & KDA Roundabout along Sher Shah Suri Road under Karachi Package.

The city has also been allocated Rs 1.064 billion and Rs 1.118 billion in PSDP for re-construction of Mangho Pir Road from Jam Chakro to Banaras, Karachi Karachi Package and Re-construction of Nishtar Road & Mangho Pir Road, Karachi respectively. Another Rs.500 million have been earmarked for construction of Flyover on Jinnah Avenue.

In addition, Rs 500 million have been set aside for Establishment of Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for Industrial Areas of Karachi including Laying of Interceptor Sewers.

The development schemes under Prime Minister’s Programme in Sindh haven’t received any funds for which Rs 5 billion have been allocated in PSDP of the current year.
