Criteria eased for appointing blue-eyed person as PRAL CEO

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister Imran Khan-led PTI government is all set to offer the top job of Pakistan Revenue Automation (Pvt) Limited (PRAL), a subsidiary of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), to a blue-eyed candidate allegedly after giving a tailor-made advertisement only to benefit him, reports said on Wednesday.

The government lowered the selection criterion for appointment of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Pakistan Revenue Automation (Pvt) Limited (PRAL). The FBR fully owns the PRAL. The PRAL is FBR’s information technology backbone.

It has been learnt that the education and experience criteria have been relaxed and only graduates can apply for the top slot in the company, which is the deemded backbone of the tax system. Ttwo influential people close to power corridors in the FBR and National Database and Registration Authority by played a vital role for relaxing of the criterion for favouring a blue-eyed person.

In April 2019, the government advertised the post of PRAL CEO and required qualification for candidates was at least first class master’s degree in computer sciences, management sciences or equivalent in similar discipline from well-reputed national/international recognised universities, with no third division in whole academic career, according to the advertisement for the post. However, a few months ago, the government re-advertised the post and lowered the educational qualification to “graduate degree from a well-reputed institute or such other professional qualification in computer science”. It has also relaxed the experience from 15 years of post-qualification to “demonstrated experience of not less than 10 years”.

The sources concerned said that tailor-made advertisement was made to hire one blue-eyed person as chief of the company. The influential people were trying to bring the person of their choice. The said person had less than 15 years of experience and a degree from a local university.
