Closure of cargo sheds on Saturdays hampering supply of medicine, medical equipment, says FBR

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in a letter written to the aviation secretary has requested that air freight units and cargo sheds at airports be kept operational on Saturdays to ensure unhindered supply of medicine and medical equipment in the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The letter was written by Customs Operation Member Tariq Huda to Aviation Secretary Hassan Nasir Jammy which suggested the opening of air freight units and cargo sheds at the airports, especially at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, on Saturdays in order to provide relief to the general public.

Currently all sea ports,terminal-operators, dry ports and Pakistan Customs remain operational on Saturdays for handling of import and export cargo. However, air freight units and cargo sheds at airports remain closed on Saturdays which decreases revenue and slows down the clearance and supply of medicines and medical equipment to the general public during the Covid-19 pandemic.
