PM seeks action plan to boost agriculture productivity

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to prepare a timeframe-based action plan for the medium and long-term projects to enhance agriculture produce in the country.
Presiding over a meeting to review progress on agriculture reforms and food security initiatives on Wednesday, the prime minister said that ensuring food security is a top priority of his government.

He directed the restructuring of agro-ecological zones in Pakistan in order to compile data pertaining to the country’s potential for enhanced crop productivity and diversification.

He also ordered the compilation of accurate data based on the production of different food commodities. He issued directives to concerned ministries for paying special attention to special economic zones dedicated to the processing of food commodities. Farmers should be attracted and provided required assistance to produce vital crops for exports, said the PM.

The PM directed to operationalise the Food Security Dash Board at the Ministry of Food Security in collaboration with all provinces and relevant departments. He also directed to pay special attention towards economic zones for the processing of agricultural produce.

Emphasizing on getting benefits from Chinese experience, the PM said technical expertise of Chinese should be fully exploited. He also directed to establish an integrated and coordinated system between all stakeholders including research institutions, universities and other concerned departments.
