Privatisation likely to fetch Rs100bn this year: Soomro

ISLAMABAD: Privatisation Minister Muhammadmian Soomro has said that the government is likely to earn Rs100 billion this fiscal year (FY21) through the privatization of state-owned entities.

In a meeting held on Monday, the privatization minister said that preliminary work for the privatization of power distribution companies been initiated initiated, while that privatization process for State Life has also commenced.

The economic agenda of the government will not be affected by any movement of the opposition parties, he maintained.

“The government has no threat [from opposition] and it will complete its five-year tenure,” the federal minister asserted. “We will also win the next elections and form government again.”

Meanwhile, the meeting informed that the privatization of two RLNG-based power plants, Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant in Jhang and Baloki Power Plant in Kasur, was in the final phases.

Soomro directed the officials to expedite the privatization of public entities included in the active list, saying that all legal and administrative issues pertaining to the process should be resolved at the earliest.

“We will also seek suggestions from the privatization commission on the process,” he added.
