Industrialists urged to benefit from PM’s energy relief package

Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood has urged the industrialists to get the maximum out of the prime minister’s ‘energy relief package’ announced for manufacturers’ facilitation.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Dawood said the longstanding demand for reduction in energy prices was now met [by the government], so it was a good time for exporters, including SMEs, to utilize the benefits of reduced energy costs.

“It was a longstanding demand of our industry that our energy tariff be made competitive in order to reduce their cost of doing business. This demand has now been met. Exporters, large & SMEs, please utilize the benefits of reduced energy costs,” the advisor tweeted.

He maintained that the Ministry of Commerce would always support exporters in the hour of need.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had on Tuesday announced a comprehensive package to provide electricity to industries at reduced rates.

As per the package, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) would get additional electricity at 50pc reduced rates from the first of Nov 2020 till 30th of June next year.

“For example, if an industrial unit was buying electricity at a rate of Rs16 per unit, he will now get the same at 50pc discount on consuming additional electricity,” the PM had explained. “Meanwhile, additional electricity would be provided at 25pc discount to all the industry, including big and small units, for next three years.”

Electricity would be provided to the industry on off-peak hours basis throughout the year, the PM added.
