SHC restrains FIA from taking action against cryptocurrency owners

The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Thursday a show-cause notice to Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing deputy director regarding action it has been taking against cryptocurrency owners.

A division bench of the SHC restrained FIA from taking further action in this regard.

“Why is the agency taking action when it has no jurisdiction to do so,” the court questioned, expressing displeasure over FIA’s action against people with Bitcoins.

The court has also directed the FIA deputy director to appear in a personal capacity at the next hearing to explain his position.

It may be mentioned here that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had imposed a ban on the use of digital currency on April 6, 2018.
