According to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan experienced a notable uptick, reaching $131.37 million in November 2023. This reflects a 7.28 percent increase compared to the previous month’s figure of $122.46 million in October 2023.
On a year-on-year basis, FDI demonstrated substantial growth, rising by 12.25 percent from $117.03 million in November 2022.
Cumulatively, within the first five months of FY24, FDI witnessed an 8.1 percent year-on-year increase, reaching $656.1 million compared to $606.9 million reported in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Breaking down the direct investments for the review month, there was an inflow of $193.54 million, marking a 10.19 percent year-on-year decrease. Concurrently, the outflow declined to $62.17 million, down by over 36.86 percent year-on-year.
In terms of portfolio investment under FDI, there was an inflow of $27.54 million through equity securities, a significant increase compared to the $0.74 million inflow reported previously.
Foreign private investment into the country recorded a notable surge, reaching $158.91 million in November 2023. This represents a 34.93 percent year-on-year increase compared to $117.78 million in November 2022. Meanwhile, foreign public divestment stood at $2.95 million during the review month.
Consequently, the total foreign investment in November 2023 amounted to $155.96 million, compared to $118.14 million reported in November 2022.
