FBR seals two restaurants in Islamabad for issuing fake invoices

Move part of FBR’s drive to bring Tier-1 retailers under the POS tax net; each restaurant also penalized with Rs 0.5 million fine

The Regional Tax Office (RTO) of the Federal Board of Revenue in Islamabad sealed two prominent restaurants for issuing fake invoices and receipts.

This action aligns with the FBR’s campaign to bring Tier-1 retailers and restaurants under the tax net through the POS invoicing system, supported by the newly introduced POS Prize Scheme.

According to a press release, after verifying the non-authenticity of receipts through the POS tracking system, an RTO Islamabad team, led by Deputy Commissioner, sealed two restaurants located in Blue Area and Super Market. Additionally, each restaurant received a penalty of Rs 0.5 million.

The FBR launched the Point of Sales Prize Scheme on October 25, initially targeting Tier-1 restaurants in Islamabad. This scheme will soon expand to include all Tier-1 retailers and eventually roll out nationwide next month. Under the scheme, customers who report fake receipts via the Tax Asaan app will be eligible for cash rewards. Once receipts are verified as fake, the FBR will transfer cash prizes directly into the winners’ bank accounts, and the offending businesses will be sealed.

This initiative aims to discourage fake invoicing practices and ensure that due taxes are paid into the national treasury. The FBR is committed to enforcing tax compliance through effective regulation.
