Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb indicated a strong possibility of Pakistan issuing Panda Bonds in Yuan this year to access China’s expansive and deep capital market.
In an interview with Chinese media outlets, including CGTN English and China Daily, the minister noted that while Pakistan has previously issued bonds in US dollars and Euros, now is the opportune time to leverage the Chinese capital market.
The minister is currently visiting China to participate in the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025. During his visit, he praised China’s efforts to open up its economy and markets, underscoring the significant role foreign companies play in China’s exports.
He said the issuance of Panda Bonds would connect Pakistan’s capital markets with China, reflecting China’s key role in Pakistan’s digital transformation. Aurangzeb also expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support, referring to the two countries as “iron brothers” and strategic partners.
Aurangzeb emphasized Pakistan’s desire to become a hub for the transfer of export-oriented facilities and services from foreign companies, particularly from China. He commended the construction of infrastructure, roads, and ports in Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
He stressed the importance of promoting financial benefits from the infrastructure already built in Pakistan and enabling Chinese industries to take advantage of it. Aurangzeb reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing regional trade and improving road and rail links with neighboring countries.
He also noted that China’s export sector and companies could benefit from Pakistan’s existing infrastructure and affordable labor force.
Furthermore, Aurangzeb highlighted his study of Chinese banks and their digital transformation, emphasizing that Pakistan could learn from China’s experiences, particularly in improving financial inclusion through digital solutions.
The Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in sectors such as financial technology, agriculture, drone technology, and other key areas.
