FBR extends sales tax, excise return filing deadline to June 5

The extension is conditional on taxpayers having already deposited their due sales tax liabilities within the original deadline

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for the tax period of April 2025 until June 5, the agency announced on Saturday.

The extension is conditional on taxpayers having already deposited their due sales tax liabilities within the original deadline, which was May 18, 2025, FBR clarified in a directive issued to tax offices nationwide.

The FBR invoked its authority under Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and Section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005, to grant the extension.

The directive has been sent to Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue at the Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Office (MTO), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), asking them to ensure dissemination and compliance.

Officials said the move aims to facilitate businesses and tax professionals who may have faced challenges in preparing documentation, while ensuring that the government’s revenue flow remains uninterrupted through timely tax deposits.

This extension follows a routine policy of limited relief offered by the FBR in line with operational realities and feedback from the business community.
