ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Secretariat has launched its first-ever Campus Ambassador Programme, aiming to foster a stronger and more transparent tax culture across Pakistan by engaging the nation’s youth.
The initiative selects top university students to act as bridges between academic institutions and public service, promoting awareness of tax rights and responsibilities. Out of nearly 2,000 applicants, 39 students from 32 institutions were chosen through a rigorous nationwide competitive process for a six-month engagement.
The programme was inaugurated at a comprehensive orientation session held at the FTO Secretariat in Islamabad. Almas Ali Jovindah, Advisor (Legal) and Executive Secretary of the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman and OIC Ombudsman Association, addressed the ambassadors. Jovindah, also head of the Youth Engagement and Diplomatic Grievance Redressal Cell, emphasized the role of youth as drivers of societal progress and institutional growth.
The ambassadors will initially educate their peers on the Ombudsman’s role, before advancing to raise awareness specifically about the Federal Tax Ombudsman’s mandate. Jovindah’s address underscored the importance of civic responsibility, leadership, and building trust within public institutions.
This programme follows a series of national and international internship initiatives introduced by Jovindah to engage top talent from Pakistan’s leading universities and colleges.
The FTO Secretariat views the Campus Ambassador Programme as a critical step toward nurturing accountability, transparency, and active citizenship in the country’s tax system. It is a joint venture between the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman and the Federal Tax Ombudsman.
