Lahore launches Rs 76 crore project to repair 272,000 streetlights

City officials highlight that the initiative will enhance public safety, reduce energy wastage, and improve the urban environment

LAHORE: The Lahore administration has initiated a major infrastructure project aimed at repairing and maintaining 272,000 streetlights throughout the city, promising to restore illumination after years of neglect.

Valued at Rs 76 crore, the project will be implemented across six municipal zones, with the initial phase focusing on procuring 150,000 new streetlights to reactivate non-functional lighting points.

Funds have been allocated for each zone as follows: Data Zone Rs 1.596 billion, Gulberg Zone Rs 1.49 billion, Nishtar Zone Rs 1.45 billion, Ravi Zone Rs 1.427 billion, Samanabad Zone Rs 993 million, and Shalimar Zone Rs 450 million.

City officials highlighted that the initiative will enhance public safety, reduce energy wastage, and improve the urban environment by addressing long-standing issues in street lighting infrastructure.

The project is part of the administration’s broader efforts to modernize Lahore’s infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its residents.
