Xiaomi will consider selling its electric vehicles outside China starting in 2027, CEO Lei Jun said during a livestream on Wednesday.
The company plans to focus on meeting strong demand in its domestic market until then.
Xiaomi had previously indicated that 2027 could be the earliest year for international shipments of its EVs.
The company’s SU7 electric sedan has outsold Tesla’s Model 3 in monthly sales since December. The newly launched YU7 SUV received strong orders within the first 18 hours after going on sale last week.
Due to the high demand, Xiaomi is telling YU7 customers that they may need to wait more than a year to receive their vehicles. This has led to a new round of complaints from buyers.
During the livestream, many viewers asked about production delays and delivery times. Lei said Xiaomi would work to increase production capacity but did not provide further details.
