Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HCAR) has announced plans to introduce a hybrid model in Pakistan, which will incorporate Honda Sensing, an advanced driver-assistance technology, according to President & CEO Masaya Wakuda.
During the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Mr. Wakuda addressed a shareholder’s query regarding the absence of hybrid options in Honda’s model lineup. The shareholder pointed out that competitors, including Toyota Pakistan, have already introduced hybrid and electric vehicles to capture the growing market demand. Toyota Pakistan, for instance, has announced a $100 million investment plan to meet the increasing demand for hybrid cars.
In response, Mr. Wakuda stated, “Apart from incorporating Hybrid technology, the new model will feature Honda Sensing, an advanced system designed to enhance safety and convenience for drivers.”
He also highlighted that Honda Global has set an ambitious target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and is working on developing electric and hybrid technologies to meet this goal. With a strong presence in hybrid technology, particularly in the United States, Honda is set to introduce its hybrid model in Pakistan soon.
The company’s chairman also discussed Honda’s position as the world’s largest engine manufacturer, producing everything from two-wheeler engines to jet engines, serving over 30 million customers annually. He emphasized that Honda’s reputation for reliability and efficiency in engine technology is a major strength globally.
Regarding the government’s decision to permit the commercial import of second-hand vehicles under certain conditions, Mr. Wakuda noted that the policy is expected to boost revenue and potentially increase the prices of reconditioned cars.
