The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has raised concerns over persistent technical and legal issues in the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Iris portal, warning they are obstructing the filing of income tax returns for Tax Year 2025.
The association said these problems could negatively affect overall taxpayer compliance.
In a letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Langrial, KTBA noted that the delayed activation of the portal for belated returns contravenes Rule 34A of the Income Tax Rules, 2002, and limits the statutory filing period outlined under Section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
The association also cited recurring technical problems, including incorrect tax calculations, failed uploads, inconsistent legal treatment, and inaccurate pre-filled data from the Management Information System.
KTBA described the portal’s performance as “degraded,” with users experiencing slow navigation, frequent timeouts, and failed transactions.
