ISLAMABAD:The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced that a major maintenance activity is scheduled on one of its submarine cables to repair a faulty repeater, potentially causing slow or degraded internet connectivity across the country for up to 18 hours.
According to a statement issued by the PTCL Group spokesperson, the maintenance work will begin on October 14, 2025, around 11 a.m. (PST) and is being undertaken by the international cable consortium responsible for managing the undersea communication infrastructure.
During the maintenance window, customers are expected to face noticeable internet service degradation, affecting browsing speeds, video streaming, cloud-based applications, and online communication platforms.
The connectivity slowdown is expected to have a direct impact on digital-dependent sectors, including businesses, financial services, online education, and media operations that rely heavily on stable internet connectivity. Remote workers and students attending virtual classes may also experience interruptions during the maintenance period.
“Customers may experience temporary service degradation during the maintenance window. We regret the inconvenience,” the PTCL said in the statement.
