ISLAMABAD: Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, emphasized the importance of easing travel between the two countries to boost tourism and cultural ties. Speaking at a special ceremony, Tukhtaev noted that the “Silk Route,” a historic connection between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, has long linked the peoples of both nations, and its restoration would mark a milestone in strengthening tourism and cultural exchanges.
Tukhtaev also introduced Hamid Mahmood Chaudhry as Uzbekistan’s Tourism Brand Ambassador in Pakistan, a move aimed at fostering deeper cultural and tourism ties. The ambassador highlighted that Uzbekistan’s cities, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, are historical centers of Islamic scholarship and culture. “These cities are living symbols of our shared faith, history, and values,” Tukhtaev said, inviting Pakistani citizens to visit and explore these spiritual landmarks.
The ambassador also emphasized Uzbekistan’s historical connection with Pakistan, particularly through shared Islamic scholars and the cultural bridge built during the Baburid Empire. “Our connection is not just diplomacy; it’s civilizational kinship,” he added. Tukhtaev also announced an exciting upcoming event: from October 30 to November 13, 2025, Samarkand will host the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, marking the first time in over 40 years that the event will be held outside Paris.
In line with the enhanced connectivity between the two countries, Uzbekistan Airways will double its flight frequency between Tashkent and Islamabad, starting October 28, 2025. The new schedule will feature flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, significantly reducing travel time to just one and a half hours. Additionally, Uzbekistan Airways operates two weekly flights between Tashkent and Lahore.
Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation’s Managing Director, Aftab Ur Rehman Rana, also spoke at the event, stressing the need for direct air connectivity and visa facilitation to promote tourism. He emphasized the importance of reviving spiritual linkages and enhancing religious tourism between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
