ISLAMABAD: Amid soaring winter demand, Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) has announced a 48-hour suspension of gas supply to industrial consumers, including captive power plants, and all CNG stations as part of extraordinary measures to maintain adequate gas pressure for domestic and commercial users during the winter season.
The suspension will remain in effect from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2. The curtailment also applies to CNG stations operating on re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), the company said.
SSGC stated that gas demand has risen sharply due to prevailing winter conditions, compelling the utility to prioritise household and commercial consumers to ensure uninterrupted supply and improved pressure in residential areas.
The company advised domestic consumers facing low gas pressure during this period to lodge complaints through its 24-hour operational helpline, 1199, assuring that its field teams remain on alert to address issues promptly.
SSGC clarified that routine gas load management will continue separately, under which gas supply to domestic and commercial consumers is suspended daily from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Emphasising responsible dissemination of information, the gas utility urged accurate reporting of the decision, noting that similar measures in the recent past were misrepresented on social media, leading to unnecessary anxiety among domestic consumers.
The company maintained that the temporary suspension is aimed solely at stabilising gas pressure for households during peak winter demand and forms part of its ongoing efforts to protect consumer interests.
