Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited has signed an agreement with Reko Diq Mining Company to handle and export copper-gold concentrates from the Reko Diq project, designating PIBT as the primary export facility for the minerals.
The agreement was formalised on Thursday and sets out a long-term arrangement under which concentrates produced at Reko Diq will be shipped through PIBT’s terminal.
Sharique Azim Siddiqui, chief executive officer of Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBTL), said the partnership aligns the terminal’s infrastructure and operational capacity with the requirements of the Reko Diq project. He said the collaboration is intended to ensure efficient and reliable handling of mineral exports.
He said the company recognises Reko Diq as a strategic project for Pakistan’s economy, with the potential to generate significant export revenues over its life, and acknowledged the role of stakeholders involved in enabling the agreement.
Reko Diq Mining Company is developing the copper-gold project in Balochistan, which is expected to become one of the country’s largest mining operations once production begins.
PIBT operates a fully mechanised multipurpose bulk handling terminal at Port Qasim. The company said its existing bulk handling capabilities, along with planned system upgrades, position it to support exports of minerals and metals in line with international environmental, health and safety standards.
