Over 25,000 govt employees, pensioners in KP found receiving BISP payments

More than 25,000 serving or retired government employees across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were found to have received payments over several years, according to official data released by Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). In Khyber district alone, 1,125 government employees from 15 departments were identified as beneficiaries.

As per a news report, the total amount disbursed in Khyber district stood at approximately Rs176.81 million, the records show. Most recipients received between Rs150,000 and Rs190,000, while some cases involved higher amounts.

A senior BISP official said eligibility criteria were rechecked in coordination with other state agencies. The official said some government employees had provided incorrect household information during BISP surveys and received funds through female family members, in violation of programme rules.

The official said BISP funds include public welfare allocations and Zakat meant strictly for economically disadvantaged families, and payments to government employees and pensioners breached eligibility conditions. The lapse was attributed to weaknesses in verification and monitoring processes involving BISP staff and other departments.

The list includes senior officials such as executive engineers, medical superintendents and education administrators, typically in BPS-18 and BPS-19 positions.

Officials said recovery proceedings are expected to begin next month and may involve voluntary refunds, salary deductions or departmental action, depending on individual cases.
