Power minister says net metering applications received till February 8 to be processed under old rules

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari has announced that all applications submitted up to February 8, 2026, will be processed under the old regulations, providing immediate relief to thousands of electricity consumers.

According to the Power Division, the power minister has issued clear instructions to all power distribution companies (DISCOs), including K-Electric, to ensure that net metering applications received till February 8 are not affected by any new regulatory framework and must be processed strictly under the previous rules.

The decision has effectively removed confusion and uncertainty surrounding pending net metering applications, as consumers had been concerned that changes in regulations could delay or impact applications already submitted, said the power division in a statement issued on Thursday.

The Power Division also said that a total of 5,165 net metering applications have been received across all DISCOs, including K-Electric, up to February 8. These applications will add a combined capacity of 250.822 megawatts to the national grid, strengthening the power supply system and supporting the expansion of renewable energy in the country.

According to the Power Division, the federal minister has also directed all distribution companies to ensure complete transparency in processing the applications, emphasizing that no unnecessary delays or procedural hurdles should be created for consumers.

The power minister has further clarified that all electricity consumers who submitted applications up to February 8 will remain eligible for net metering facilities through their respective distribution companies, including K-Electric, said the power division.

In order to ensure smooth implementation, Leghari has urged consumers to report any complaints regarding net metering processing by calling the helpline 118, so that immediate action can be taken.
