DISCOs introduce simplified electricity bills with clearer layout and QR codes

Electricity consumers across Pakistan will now receive redesigned monthly bills featuring a clearer layout and improved visibility of key information, as power distribution companies introduce a simplified format aimed at making bills easier to read and understand.

Power distribution companies (DISCOs) have introduced the revised bill format under the Ministry of Energy’s consumer-focused reform agenda.

The new format prominently displays the total payable amount, payment due date and electricity consumption details, allowing consumers to identify essential billing information at a glance.

According to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the initiative was developed after consumers and other stakeholders raised concerns over the previous billing format.

The earlier format was considered overcrowded and difficult to understand because of its complex presentation, technical details and repetitive or non-essential information. This made it difficult for consumers to quickly identify key figures.

In response, the ministry initiated a complete redesign of electricity bills to simplify their structure and improve accessibility.

The revised format removes visual clutter and presents billing information in a more organised layout. Payable amounts, consumed units and due dates are displayed more prominently to reduce confusion among consumers.

QR codes have also been added to the new bills, allowing consumers to access supplementary billing information and digital services through their mobile devices.

The Ministry of Energy said feedback from consumers and stakeholders played an important role in shaping the revised format.

It added that efforts to modernise billing systems and improve service delivery would continue as part of broader reforms in the power sector.
