Chinese investors show interest in EV charging stations in Islamabad

Chinese investors have expressed interest in setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Islamabad as the government moves to expand electric mobility infrastructure in the country.

As per reports, a Chinese delegation conveyed its interest during a meeting with officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) at the authority’s headquarters in Islamabad. The delegation said it was ready to cooperate in establishing EV charging facilities in the federal capital.

The meeting was attended by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Additional Secretary Interior Joudat Ayaz and representatives of the Chinese delegation. Discussions focused on developing EV charging infrastructure and introducing modern technology for electric transport systems in Islamabad.

Officials informed the delegation that CDA has already introduced regulations governing EV charging facilities and implementation of these rules is underway.

Under the regulations, commercial buildings are required to allocate charging facilities equivalent to three percent of their parking capacity. Charging infrastructure will also be mandatory at fuel stations across the city.

According to CDA officials, the policy requires installation of EV charging points at around 138 fuel stations in Islamabad. Existing filling stations will be required to install at least one charging point, while new stations will be required to install two charging points.

Authorities said planning is also underway to establish EV charging hubs at multiple locations in the capital to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles.

During the meeting, the CDA chairman directed officials to prepare a feasibility study on the use of 3D-printed housing technology in Islamabad. The proposal is part of efforts to explore modern construction technologies and promote low-cost and environmentally sustainable housing.
