Planning ministry authorises Rs558 billion for development projects in 8MFY26 

The Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives authorised Rs558.12 billion for development projects under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) during the first eight months of the fiscal year 2025–26.

Data available on the ministry’s website showed that the authorised amount represents 55.8% of the Rs1 trillion allocation for the current fiscal year, while actual expenditures during July–February stood at Rs361.27 billion.

Out of the allocated budget for fiscal year 2025-26, the Planning Ministry authorised 15% of PSDP funds for the first quarter, 20% for the second quarter, 25% for the third quarter and 40% for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.

For federal ministries, divisions and departments, the Planning Ministry authorised Rs393.31 billion out of a total allocation of Rs685.96 billion for the fiscal year. The allocation includes Rs102 billion linked to foreign loans.

Actual spending by federal ministries and departments during the July–February period reached Rs254.55 billion.

For infrastructure projects executed by the National Highways Authority and the power sector entities NTDC and PEPCO, the ministry authorised Rs164.8 billion out of a total allocation of Rs314.04 billion. Utilisation in these sectors reached Rs106 billion.

Out of Rs223.28 billion allocated for National Highways Authority projects, Rs133.03 billion was authorised and Rs71.98 billion had been spent by February.

In the power sector, Rs31.77 billion was authorised out of the total allocation of Rs90.76 billion, while expenditures reached Rs34.74 billion during the same period.

For development projects in provinces and special areas, the Planning Ministry authorised Rs129.95 billion out of Rs249.2 billion allocated for the fiscal year.

Other allocations authorised during the period include Rs25.44 billion out of Rs42.15 billion for the Water Resources Division, Rs6.56 billion out of Rs10.9 billion for the Defence Division and Rs8.2 billion out of Rs13.91 billion for the Interior Division.

For railway development projects, Rs13.45 billion was authorised out of a total allocation of Rs22.42 billion.

The ministry also authorised Rs57.23 billion out of Rs70.38 billion for projects under the Cabinet Division, Rs386 million for the Board of Investment, Rs1.67 billion for the Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Division, Rs19.29 billion for the Federal Education and Professional Training Division and Rs7.9 billion for the Information Technology and Telecommunication Division.
