PTCL subsidiary PTML secures 180 MHz spectrum in Pakistan 5G auction

Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), a wholly owned subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and operating under the brand name Ufone 4G, has secured 180 MHz spectrum in Pakistan’s recent 5G spectrum auction.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday, PTCL said the spectrum was obtained during the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS)/5G auction conducted on March 10 by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

According to the disclosure, PTML secured 60 MHz in the 2600 MHz band and 120 MHz in the 3500 MHz band, bringing its total allocation to 180 MHz.

The assignment stage of the auction was completed on March 12, during which PTML obtained specific frequency positions within the two bands through competitive bidding.

The total price for the spectrum acquisition was $156.75 million.

The company said PTML will sign the NGMS/5G licence with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority after completing the required formalities.

Following the licensing process, the company plans to begin the rollout of 5G services while improving nationwide cellular broadband services.

The upgraded network will support services for customers using the Ufone, Telenor and Onic brands operated by PTML.
